Dr. Ritchie wasted my appointment time by insisting that various members of my family were misdiagnosed (I brought them up during her family history questioning). She is very condescending (I mixed up psychiatrists and therapists and she insisted on breaking down every detail regarding why I was wrong even though it wasn’t relevant to our conversation; I had just been saying I had seen various therapists over the years). She also asked me if I maintained a regular weight, and when I said “yes I think so, but I don’t own a scale,” she said, in a very rude way, “well you can tell by whether your clothes fit or not”. She also informed me that weed was a depressant drug which was blocking my anti-depressant, something which further research on my part proved to be completely unfounded. She recommended no further changes to my medication regimen even though that was the entire reason I had been referred to her; all she suggested I do was stop smoking weed and “play online chess in order to counteract the marijuana in my system”. Basically she’s completely rude and won’t listen to her patients’ personal concerns and priorities, but rather will slot you into one of several profiles she has pre-formed in her mind and base her recommendations on that. It’s disgraceful that Concordia continues to employ her considering that university students are incredibly vulnerable psychologically, and considering Concordia’s distinct LGBTQA+ and POC communities which face even more likelihood of mental illness, trauma, etc. Dr. Ritchie did nothing but cement my distrust in the medical system.

If you want to discuss deeply personal and complex issues in an atmosphere of respect, safety, dignity and kindness...STAY AWAY. Ritchie not only failed to provide that atmosphere she was activity hostile. F**k you Ritchie, you are nothing but a cruel joke and I wouldn't wish you on anybody. You are a disgrace and should not be interacting with vulnerable people
