ER Nurse that's disgusted!

Had my daughter in ER for chest pain. She has a history of heart problems. They asked her name and left her for 15 minutes until her friend freaked out on the ER staff and insisted they look at her! The staff were hostile and put out for all of the patients in the department. As a previous ER Nurse I was shocked how they left her in a hall without any observation. Wouldn't care if anything happened! Patient beside her was shaking he was so cold. I asked for a blanket and was met with FINE. I was then told I had to wait outside and insisted to stay to watch my daughter. This seems sad when I know that this kind of attitude and lack of care is passing for okay by the nurses themselves but if I was manager I'd probably have a number of vacancies for nurses due to poor triage, poor basic nursing assessments or the lack of, and straight up negligence! The Doctor that saw my daughter was good but privacy was non-existent! In a day when confidentiality is at the core of healthcare it's funny when its not seen as essential.

On Nov 9,2012 I had to take my 87yo mother by ambulance to hospital. This was the 1st time we have ever gone to VGH. The paramedic had suggested VGH. My mom had major pain in her leg & was unable to stand letalone walk. She has a history of blood clots & was afraid of DVT which she had 4 yrs ago in the other leg, at that time we went to St.Pauls. Should have gone there this time. Paramedics where excellent. But what a gong show @the ER. I understand there is a staff shortage, but my mother was put down a hall at the very end farthest away from the admitting desk or any nurses. She was not given an emergency button & when I stepped away for a half an hour she needed to go to the bathroom. Due to inability to move her leg she would need a bedpan. She hollored for help but no one came. another patient went for help but it was too late. She had wet the bed and all the bedding. When I got back I was told of this from both my mom & the other patient. My mom was still soaked. I went for help and when the nurse came to change the bed, she dropped the pile of blankets on my moms legs. My mom yelped as this hurt. Then I had to help change the bed as no one else was available. We had been at the end of this hall for 3 hrs before a doctor even said boo to us. The geriatric Dr. was excellent. She spoke with us as my mom lives alone & I was concerned. We will follow up with our family dr regarding suggestions from the geriatric Dr. After many hrs mom was sent for xrays. Nothing showed up. So she can go home. We arrived home at 7:30 with no answers, only frustrations. Not sure if we will need to return to hospital, but will NOT be going to VGH ER. I feel so bad for the Dr.'s and staff as they have lost the compassion in there jobs due to overworking.

Checking front staff absolutely horrible , very arrogant and rude ! August 2. 7. 30 am I ask person , tall man working in front if he can call me taxi or ambulance take me home . I have no money on me , not at home give to Taxi driver. I was completely exausted after 9 months every day extremely ill , not sleep in months .Went to emergency with chest pain all night and stomach pain, weak and no energie . When ask him , he become extremely rude and arrogant and scream at me ..... NoNO i dont give you Taxi , nono. you will take bus . I said i am exausted , dizzy , cannot walk 2 to 5 bloocks to bus . He said , ...o yes , you can do it .! Here is bus ticket !.Nurse , who was working that morning told me .......You going to take bus or we call security on you .....! I was in shock. I cannot walk 2 , 5 bloocks , cannot even go shopping for grocery or see my Dr .I am exausted. They told me to leave or call security at me. I walk in front Emergency door and call Taxi . When wait for Taxi , security come out , and told me to leave E.Dep area. I said, I waiting for taxi , he said I have to leave . wait for Taxi on street. Not in front E. department. Thanks God , Taxi just arive in front and I explain to him , I will pay him next day . Person , who lived in 3 different countries before Canada , can tell you this was absolutely worst experience in my life . Those extremely arrogant people should work in jail , not in hospital . I meet this very vulgar man twice before, again very rude and arrogant . I am absolutely disgusted , they give me treatment as if I was some criminal. I was working many years in hospitality and can only imagine what will happen to us , if we have comunication skills like those two this morning . Was 7 .30 am , was not busy at all . Doctors and nurses very helpfull always , great people .Thank you to them .
