As a Canadian/BC resident, who is proud of the health care system, if you want to see a shining example of your hard-earned tax dollars at work, then drop by the Joint Preservation Centre at UBC Hospital's 2nd floor. If your idea of "excellent patient care" includes: moronic, sloth-like employees with no sense of urgency; un-returned phone calls from a rude, arrogant, unenthusiastic secretary with an entitlement complex; enduring months of waiting - just to get an appointment date, (let alone the appointment), and years of waiting to see a faculty specialist who completely misses hip pathologies obvious to physiotherapists; radiologists who can't correctly interpret MRI's...then, yes - the Joint Preservation Centre at UBC Hospital is the right place for you. There you may enjoy all of the benefits just listed and more: you might also enjoy a 3 year wait just to see a specialist, in order to get the wrong diagnosis, and the added benefit of having to seek the correct answer - at your own expense and initiative - elsewhere for your orthopedic hip issue. You will experience what distinguishes UBC Hospital's brand of care from other, 'less accomplished' hospitals in Canada: its timely patient care, its efficiently communicating, organized staff; its focus on patient health and well-being, and of course - its exemplary service, which will be provided to you by its polite, focused, caring staff in the 'busy, bee-hive of activity' that is The Joint Preservation Centre. I encourage you to visit it on any weekday and see for yourself the 'crowds' of people lined up there... It is no wonder the poor, over-worked staff is too busy to return doctors' and patient calls or to manage patient information accurately.... If you have any urgent issues, do yourself a favour: if you must stay in Vancouver, seek assistance at VGH. Better yet, seek assistance outside the province or in the US.
