My parents went to this doctor recently. My mother's stories of how this old man had nearly made her cry motivated me to advise his, hopefully, never-to-be patients. First thing he asks, 'Have you seen any doctors?" My mother replies that yes, she has seen walk-in clinic doctors and from back in my home country. He then asks, 'Have you seen any dermatologists?" My mother replies no, to which he scowls, 'Well then why did u tell me you've seen doctors?" Great welcome. Unfortunately, the rest of the checkup wasn't any better. He barked at my mother to "MOVE YOUR HAND!" when she was trying to show him her skin problem and made snide remarks about how my parents probably can't afford treatments. He ended up prescribing the same ointment my mother had been using all along, prescribed by the walk-in doctors and doctors from our home country whom he didn't consider "doctors." It's worth noting that my mother didn't speak English well and had no way of retorting, which had a huge effect on how she felt. Dr. Bargman epitomizes the reputation of pretentious and condescending Canadian doctors. I find this sad, since I know there are some deserving doctors out there who know how to treat patients well. This a bit of a tangent but Canada's multicultural, and I feel like old-fashioned doctors such as Dr. Bargman simply do not know how to handle international patients.
