I used to have a family doctor at Medistat for 8 years until she dropped me as a patient. The ordeal I had to go through to get my medical file so that I can be seen elsewhere was insane. At a very low point in my depression, my medication was not working; I was confused and could not understand what was happening at the time. The doctors and the staff at the front desk behave as if you are an inconvenience to them. There isn’t anything worse when needing medical care, then to be treated like discarded trash. The wait time in the walk in clinic can be as long as 4 hours, even when you have an appointment the doctor is never on time, you would always wait at least an hour after your appointment time before being seen. Medistat is a great example of the way our public health care system has become; I now go to a private clinic, what a difference it is from the public system. The staff and doctors treat you with dignity and compassion. When I make an appointment to see my family doctor now, I can see her the same day or wait two or three days, try that at Medistat you would be very lucky to have an appointment in a month or two. At a private clinic you do pay for your doctor’s consultation however it isn’t any more different than other services provided, you get what you paid for. At Medistat you may not pay anything but you do not get anything in return. Sadly however you are deprived of respectable treatment and appropriate medical care. If you are depression or have suicidal thoughts Medistat is not the place to go to.
