Dr. Martin attended to me in ER at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. He thorough, prompt, professional, and kind. I felt as though I received quality care.

Doctor was cold and unfeeling - and clearly viewed me as a "bother". My surgical drain had blocked, and I had developed a large and uncomfortable seroma. Doctor professed no knowledge of how to remove a surgical drain, and ensured he poked & prodded & twisted the arm in every way possible to inflict additional pain. Doctor sent me home from the ER (in ARH no less where there are no shortages of people who know how to remove a drain) with a "too bad so sad". It was helpfully removed in a mere 2 minutes by the kind doctor at Cedar Walk-In in Mission the next morning, and I was finally given relief from a massive seroma.

Dr. Martin showed no compassion for me as a 70 year old woman injured in a snow-tube accident this past Thursday, where my head, left shoulder and left ribcage slammed into a tree. Dr. offered only basic comments on his very short initial exam. After we had a relatively short 1-2 hour wait for CT scan, he was quite uncaring as he reported nothing serious shows up (could have had a brain bleed or fractured ribs causing breathing difficulty). Just a fractured vertebrae. I had to prod, as in Compression fracture? He did not state which vertebrae, figured I could be taken off back board, have neck brace taken off and head home! No mention of what to do in days following, just don’t lie around, keep moving. No suggestion of ice, heat. Had to ask what serious side effects to watch for. I had to ask that the Tylenol be T3 and if I could have some before being discharged. This type of accident was equivalent, I think, to a MVA crash, ( with no airbag protection), which luckily, I have never suffered. The muscle/ cartilage pain I experienced Day 2-4 have been pretty significant. Had I not been on blood thinners, possibly an NSAID would have helped minimize inflammation/swelling. But at the least, I think prescribing of a muscle relaxant might have been in order, as happens with MVA crash. The situation was not just a simple compression fracture from osteoporosis, bu the result of blunt force trauma hitting a tree! 15 T3’s doesn’t go far in this type of pain management, nor over a holiday weekend nor during times of family MD’s unavailability due to Covid restrictions. Was he afraid of having his wrists slapped for over-prescribing such a STRONG (haha) narcotic, that could be addicting ?? or has he never experienced extreme pain himself? I am not at all impressed with the uncaring attitude, care, compassion, knowledge, or instructions/advice received from this Dr. The nurse, Preet, who attended me was quite caring, despite running between a few trauma rooms due to staff shortages. She really helped to make the situation as bearable as possible.

Dr. Martin was very friendly and thorough in his ER examination. It took hours to be able to see him but that is likely not a reflection on himself but the workload in Abbotsford Emergency
