Rude, intimidating, she should never, never have become a dr.

I have never encountered such an unprofessional so-called-professional in my life. My first visit with Dr Vanderwert was my last and I should have left within the first five minutes of being in her office as opposed to assuming the visit would improve. The reason I had been referred to Dr. Vanderwert was to see if I could get tested for PTSD. (The therapist I was seeing felt there was a good chance I am suffering with post traumatic stress disorder but is unable to do the testing.) In preparation for the appointment, I was going over key points in my mind of what I wanted to explain to the psychiatrist. This meant I was recalling the details of my traumatic experience so I was already quite anxious before meeting with Dr. Vanderwert which lead to me bursting into tears the moment I sat down to meet with her. It felt like she was scolding me when she would talk to me. Unfortunately, my experience with her has made me feel like getting a formal diagnosis of PTSD (or anything else) isn’t worth it if I have to go through that kind of torment again.

This doctor isn't very good at treating her patients. If anything she is making things worse.

I was seen by Dr. Vanderwert, by referral, to assess me for PTSD. I had retired from a very long, stressful and often difficult career. During my working life, I’d received extensive training in Psychology to use in my job when necessary - extensive training! I found Dr. Vanderwert to be very skilled, knowledgeable, compassionate and caring during our session. That’s not to say that I expected her, or any psychiatric clinician, to treat me as a “poor dear” nor as a “wounded child”. Her demeanour was calm, level and balanced. During a moment when emotion overtook me, she paused appropriately and calmly allowed composure to return. The role of a psychiatrist or psychologist isn’t to overly pamper or coddle a patient. Their role is to help us to understand the basis of our trauma by working it out ourselves, with the doctor’s guidance. Dr. Vanderwert excels in this regard. I read the handful of negative reviews. I know nothing of these people’s troubles but I hope they found the help they were seeking. It’s important to remember that no professional “helper“ will “fit” with every patient. It’s so difficult to find a doctor who can take on new patients. I hope my review will calm the mind of anyone scheduled to see Dr. Vanderwert. She may be the help you seek…

I’ve seen this doctor twice, and both times I was in & out of her office in less than 10 minutes. She was curt to to point of being rude, never asked me any questions regarding my previous psychiatric history, and her comments were very judgemental. I had just been released from hospital after a two-week stay where I had begun treatment for bipolar disorder, and the doctor didn’t even ask me if I required any prescriptions, so now I need to go to a walk-in clinic to have them filled. She was more concerned about telling me that she only works part-time than she was in my mental health, so I will be looking for a referral for another psychiatrist. If you find yourself referred to her, good luck, her bedside manner quite frankly sucks.
