Mary Smith

Dr. Rebekka Young will keep you waiting for up to 30 minutes on a folding chair in her porch, facing a mere foot from a brick wall. She pushes medications on you and if the side effects are more debilitating than the problem they're being used to treat, she reacts as though you're either making it up or wasting her time. In other words, she doesn't trust or respect your experience of your body's reaction to the drugs she's prescribing. She writes continuously in your file from the moment you sit down, all the way through the session, as though she is taking dictation or writing your memoir. When she does look up from her writing, it is brief, and she begins to nod off to sleep and has to jerk her head to stay awake. If you question her process (of taking notes rather than putting her so-called therapeutic skills to work and actually doing some verbal psychotherapy with you and therefore earning her $140 an hour), she gets completely bent out of shape and sneers at you as being the problem. Her ego can't tolerate any challenges or questions. She is God. It's her way or the highway. A good psychiatrist for lemmings, or for people who just like to recite their memoirs to a scribe, with no feedback or only pat, obvious feedback, like, "once the weather is warmer, I'm sure you'll feel like getting out more." Save your time and energy, avoid this petty tyrant: Dr. Obvious.
