Patient, Shouldice Hospital

Interesting to see after 33 years of service there is no rating for Dr Kalman. Had hernia surgery a week ago, and was admitted into ER two days ago with a severe infection of the surgery site requiring draining and packing. Would be interested to see stats on infectious control in the Souldice Hospital and if any other patients have had this problem. I did not see Dr Kalman's presence since the surgery, no follow-up at bedside whatsoever.

Dr Kalman performed my inguinal hernia surgery 5 days ago at Shouldice. I only met him a few minutes before surgery as I had seen other surgeons prior in the walk in clinic at Shouldice. He was very nice and did a great job on me. My incision looks great compared to others I have seen. I have had no complications. He came to check on me the 2nd day after surgery when he removed the second half of the clips. He was nice and friendly. He doesn’t go out of his way to make conversation, but he was friendly while he was with me. I was told by a nurse that he usually doesn’t check on patients - I guess it was a fluke that he was the one checking on everyone that day (they rotate) and removing clips. I am happy with the fact that Dr Kalman did my surgery as I am healing nicely and happy with the incision. He knows what he is doing and he is a very competent surgeon. If I had to have another one, I would want him to be my surgeon again.

I had biliateral hernia repairs at Shouldice Hospital by Dr. Peter Kalman in 2013 and still have severe chronic pain. Dr. Aleksandar Georgievski had pre-surgery consultation with me. On the date of admission, Dr. Indira Sen presented me the consent forms “Authorize to Operate” to me. On next day, Dr. Peter Kalman performed first hernia repair; one day after my first hernia repair, he performed the second repair. Dr. Peter Kalman cut my left side 11.5 cm incision and right side 12cm. Dr. Peter Kalman didn’t see me until my first surgery and didn’t have consultation at all. He didn’t visit me at bedside at surgery. Dr. Peter Kalman performed surgeries with examination. In the consent forms Dr. Kalman signed as Witness, although there was a nurse signed as a witness, who wasn’t present in the consent process. Dr. Indira Sen presented the consent forms and should have signed on the forms, but she didn’t sign. This type of informed consent process is a fraud and violated the Health Care Consent Act, 1996. The law says “4.The consent must not be obtained through misrepresentation or fraud. 1996, c. 2, Sched. A, s. 11 (1).” I have sued the Shouldice Hospital, Dr. Peter Kalman and Indira Sen. Dr. Peter Kalman denied the fact to the court saying that he saw me on the date of admission and consultation with me. Dr. Indira Sen also laid to the court saying that she didn’t present the consent forms to me on the day of admission. Dr. Peter Kalman is a moral corrupt person, shameless. The same as Dr. Indira Sen. I couldn’t appropriate words for them, mean? shameless?, filthy? immoral? dishonorable? unconscionable? These two are evil liars If you have the same experience as me at the Shouldice Hospital, i.e, consultation done one doctor, and the surgeon done by another surgeon, please TEXT me at four three seven three seven one onesixsixfive.

Dr Kalman repaired my inguinal hernia on !! March, 2022. To the best of my knowledge, the surgery went well (I was sedated so I can only report on the pre- and post operative experience.) The incision healed well and quite quickly and it was a surprisingly neat incision - I doubt there will be a scar.) I did not see Dr Kalman before or after the surgery as I was assessed pre- and post surgery by a series of doctors. (This seems to be the routine at the Shouldice). However, overall, I was very impressed by the Shouldice Hospital. I have no hesitation in recommending it for hernia repairs and I would certainly be happy to have Dr Kalman perform any future hernia surgery on me.
