I was a patient of Dr. Spinner a few years ago. I volunteered myself as an inpatient at St. Joe's to get faster help since it can take months to see a psychiatrist. At the time it would have taken me 6. She was rude, consistently interrupting me when I was answering her questions since it was not in her desired format which consistently made me lose my trail of thought. If it was one talking pattern rule at a time it would be one thing. But she was doing so many at times without fully expelling them ahead of time that I couldn't get an idea in. She was dismissive to many personal issues I mentioned. She yelled at my family doctor on the phone since his and five other mental health care provider's diagnosis was inconsistent with the one she gave. Her diagnosis was wrong despite what myself and the other doctors and consolers said. Her word was always absolute. She treated and talked to patients like children giving and revoking off-ward passes not just on your mental state, but how much you agree with every assessment she gives. She was rude to the social worker. You weren't allowed to have a difference in opinion even delivering it in a non-agrresive manner. She primarily was educated though the social science route instead of the biological, so she is extremely hesitant in administering prescription drugs even in extreme or long-term sufferers under supervision. Since a very low dose or even so a sugar pill can work wonders utilizing the placebo effect, I don't understand why they don't try that on long-term sufferers. (The last point was more a personal opinion.)

I would recommend this intelligent, horrible psychiatrist to no-one. Her lack of humanity and empathy are not affectations that she can get away with because she's some kind of genius; they mean that she is ineffective. From at least five of her former professional colleagues and many former patients I have been told she is agreed to be ineffective - in addition to being callous, mean, condescending, and completely without patience or grace. She will correctly identify that there is a mountain in the way, and then try to blow it up with zero regard for collateral damage, precision, or even effectiveness. Water would have cleared a path in time with gentleness and persistence. I am still healing from what she did. I literally have nightmares. It has been ten years. My mother may never heal.
