I came to know Dr Slawnych, through the Cardiac Function Clinic at the Foothills Hospital. His area of expertise is cardiology, geriatrics, and palliative care - and he appears to excel in all three. I accompanied my aunt to the appointment for assistance with pain management and maintenance of good quality of life. Where others saw a frail 100 yr woman, he saw an elderly individual with a love for life hoping to maintain some control and independence in her life. His respect and professionalism was excellent in that he listened to what she said, he truly heard what she was saying, and he spoke directly to her - rather than to those accompanying her. He was kind, intuitive, and I know that he connected with my aunt. She felt heard and respected and this will lead to her following Dr Slawnych's suggestions for care.
