On a saturday night when my daughter was in tears because she could no longer eat, drink or sleep because of extreme pain in her throat and everything I tried offered her no relief we decided it was more then just a cold (we thought maybe tonsils or something) and took her to the E.R. Dr. Stubbs who was already in the hospital at the time came into the room we were in and said "In what realm does a sore throat warrent a visit to the emergency department. It is an abuse of the system as far as I am concerned and if I had not already been here I would have refused to come and see her" Not so much as a hello first. I don't take my kids to E.R all the time. The last time was when she cut her head open from a fall. It was a last resort for us since we felt that it was something beyond our capabilities. It turned out she had a bunch of cold sores in the back of her mouth and throat.(Similar to strep throat) When I sarcasticly apologized for wasting his time he said to me "Well you should have brought her in at dinner time" I'm sorry I didn't realize that it made a difference on whether or not you are abusing the system based on the TIME OF DAY you go in to the E.R. His bedside manner sure needs a lot of work and he should learn to not ASSUME that a sore throat is just due to cold before he even sees the patient.
