I have only seen Dr. McKechnie once at the Burrard/Broadway clinic. I went on a Sunday and of course it was busy like most clinics. I waited one hour (understandably) before I was able to see her. She was extremely professional and compassionate. Asked me a series of questions and was able to guide me through a plan issuing lab and ultra sound papers. She was sure to let me know she wouldn't be back at this clinic for one week and so I wouldn't be able to discuss my results with her until the following weekend. She assured me if I were to experience certain symptoms prior to seeing her to immediately go to a hospital.... which I did. I definitely felt that she was a good doctor and I wish she was able to be my family doctor.

Demeaning Experience
After seeing this doctor, I felt terrible about myself. Dr. Paula McKechnie's approach was condescending and judgmental. I found her to be bordering on abusive. She drilled me with personal questions that had no relevance to my immediate health situation. Upon answering her intrusive questions, she made it clear that she had no interest in hearing what I had to say. She interrupted me, became frustrated and angry and sniped "Are you always like this?" Like what? In need of a doctor because I have a medical issue? Her passive-aggressive behavior did not sneak by this patient. Dr. Mckechnie blatantly dismissed my health issues and instead attacked me as a person. She came at me from a position of "I'm okay as a person, in fact, I'm perfect and you're NOT." She also accused me of going through medication too fast, and when I tried to defend myself she refused to listen and kept on scolding me. FINALLY, she realized that she had made a mistake, but instead of apologizing she just said, "Okay, I take that back." I guess because she's so superior she could never admit she made a mistake or give a lowly patient like me any regard - such as an apology. I would like to ask Dr. McKechnie if SHE'S always like that? Dr. McKechnie, are you always under the delusion that you are better than other people? Do you always degrade patients? Why are you so rude? There are some kind, helpful doctors at this clinic and Dr. McKechnie is not one of them. Stay away from this doctor.

I saw her today for the first (and only) time and felt so sad and scared after seeing her. I've been feeling unwell for over a week. She had spent maybe 5 min. with me and said "I don't have time. I have to go". I asked what do you mean you have to go? Well, there are people waiting. Two, and nobody was in pain. I had not even finished telling her what was wrong. BAD experience, I have not been able to find a decent doctor since I moved here in 2007. :(

I came to see Dr. McKechnie at Broadway & Burrard Medical Clinic. It was the first time that I was seen by her. Right away she made me feel uneasy with her unsteady demeanor. After trying to explain to her my concerns, she was unwilling to hear the full story and made no attempt to try to work out an agreeable treatment plan. Basically she made up an her pinon in the first few seconds and then could care less. When I let her know that this was frustrating, like a child, she stormed out the room not saying a word. Totally unprofessional and unstable person. I would recommend to avoid being seen by her if possible.

I dropped in at the Burrard/Broadway clinic. I had a (possible) allergic reaction to somthing and needed to see a Dr. right away. Dr. McKechnie saw me. She was very patient although a lot of people were waiting and it took me quite a while to explain the history and symptoms of my problem. My regular family doctor is very good. And I thought that Dr. McKechnie was a similar sort of doctor.
