This was my dad and I know how dedicated he was. He often got up in the night to see to a very sick patient at the hospital. It was back in the days before Medicare in Montreal and all the doctors had to take turns to do clinic rounds. Often doctors would find ways to make those rounds very fast and distant. Not so my dad. In these clinics were many Chinese patients. My father had been born in China and lived there til he was 9. He had a soft spot for them and gave them blue ribbon care. They loved him and we were often invited to Chinatown where they would pour out their gratitude to him with a spumtuous Chinses meal! Also, at that time ministers could receive free medical care and so other doctors often found ways to avaoid this. Not so my father! He had a long list of patients who were very grateful to him. My mother was certainly happy when Medicare came in and he sarted to get paid for all this pro bono work!
