Dr. Onzuka excelled in everything he did as a physician. Unfortunately he failed to uphold the Hippocratic Oath and seriously (mentally and emotionally) injured two patients. He, like all of us had his "demons" and sadly his demons created victims that were hurt. I am deeply saddened to see all those that were hurt through his actions (including himself). My understanding is that he went to a treatment facility for offenders and is dedicated to healing the damages he has caused to the victims. My hope is that the victims receive an opportunity to heal from their terrible ordeal and that there be restoration of justice. May this be the beginning of preventing future victims of crime by physicians.

Recovering Sex Addict
Though his actions have been appalling and an egregious violation of patients' boundaries - he is a good person. Mentally ill people (including doctors) need compassion and healing. It is my hope that what is most important here is that he seeks and gets help. Also that the patients get support, compassion and care. We all become judgers of other's behaviours before we judge our own conduct. Let us focus on identifying at risk physicians and get them help before such things repeat themselves.
