My experience with her is very different. She strikes me as the type of person who needs to do things in a set order, and things go completely awry if she’s forced to work in a different order. I have a feeling that she lost the order and that she made one mistake after another with my case. When I was seeing her, she was always over an hour and 15 minutes to see patients. In addition, she never explained anything, and I think that this is because she needs to work on her communication skills. The first time I saw her, she told me that she was referring me to radiation oncology, and that it would be done at Credit Valley, without explaining that Credit Valley is the closest hospital offering radiation therapy. She just said that I would do radiation therapy at Credit Valley. And the way that she said it, it sounded like she had already decided that the next step was radiation therapy, even though she hadn’t seen my pathology report yet. Well, when my pathology report was released, she suddenly changed her tune because I needed chemotherapy before the radiation therapy. Also, she wanted me to have more surgery, but the surgeon disagreed. She never told me what drugs I would be getting, only that the nameless drug to treat the HER2 overexpression could affect my heart. She never mentioned that some of the other drugs could harm my heart and liver or that they would make me infertile (although I have read that NO oncologists ever tell people that the drugs make you infertile). I had to go to the chemotherapy information session to find all of this out . . . 4 days before I started the chemotherapy, and the information was only mentioned as a side note. The affects on fertility weren’t mentioned at all; they were noted in the paperwork that I happened to read. When relations deteriorated between me and her, she didn’t try to adapt her behaviour to address the problem; she merely continued acting the same until she finally pawned my case off on someone else. I’m happy to be rid of her. Perhaps she does a better job for other people, but I think she made many mistakes with me.
