I was initially very decidedly opposed to anyone opening my skull and messing about in the contents. In my first meeting with Dr. Megyesi I stated that very bluntly. He accepted that but urged me to hear him out. He did not try to convince me. He simply built upon what education I already had answered my questions openly and urged me to think on the matter. But also to bear in mind that time was of the essence and cells' widths could make a tremendous difference. I was scheduled for a follow-up appointment in which he simply accepted my previous statement. .but went forward with answering the host of questions I'd brought with me. When I informed him that I'd changed my mind I still don't remember the journey up 3 floors to his office but everything was arranged and set in motion so fast that my head still spins trying to remember the speed and efficiency with which the procedure and process was both explained and set in motion. This doctor walks on water in my experience. For anyone having to face "going to sleep, and not knowing what they'll be like when (if?)they wake up...there is simply no experience like it. Being a control freak myself, it was undescribably terrifying to be in that position. Even in the operating room, yes I had second thoughts. Sat on the operating table and asked "what if I've changed my mind?" To be answered with. ."well, none of us will be happy at this point, but it's your call." That simple reassurance made all the difference in my confidence levels for the surgical team. Upon waking in the recovery room, Dr. Megyesi himself asked me for the number to call my (teenage) daughter to let her know the surgery was over and answer her questions. He made the call personally even though I had given him the wrong exchange twice. My daughter was immensely relieved and apparently asked him quite few questions of her own. She later told me she'd never been given any indication that he, himself must have been exhausted, nor that he was speaking down to a child. He was very informative and encouraging to her. Afterwards, the aftercare was superb. Although I definitely wasn't *myself* for quite a while afterwards, he was and remains, the epitome of whom anyone would feel comfortable with during their most vulnerable life crisis. I know I inadvertently insulted him during that followup visit, but my aphasia (which has since resolved ) prevented me from truly expressing my thanks. I can only hope he understood that the words that my MI d sent to my mouth were NOT the words the actually came out. I knew as soon as I'd uttered them that I'd been let down by my own body (horrible experience definitely don't recommend it) UT didn't have the courage to simply turn around and apologize, let alone try to reword appropriately, but it was the last thing I ever said to him and was completely opposite to what I meant to say. Dr. Megyesi Thank you, and please accept my apologies. To date (12 YEARS later) no one can tell from speaking or eing around me that you removed just over 4.5 cms of tissue from my skull. Thank you for applying your skill to the bomb I my head. Not a day goes by that I don't thank the powers that be for having had the benefits of you knowledge and skills.
