First Time Mom

At our first meeting Dr. Ajamian told me that my husband and I should not be co-sleeping with our son and that I must not be producing enough breastmilk or feeding my exclusively breastfed baby adequately because he was in the 25th percentile for weight (despite the fact that he had been growing steadily since birth). She referred me to a breastfeeding specialist who assured me that all was quite well. The next time I saw Dr. Ajamian, she again told me that I needed to increase the amount I was feeding my son and that I should not be co-sleeping. In fact, she took the opportunity to tell me about some patients of hers, who happened to have a baby the same age as mine, who had died a week earlier, apparently due to their practice of co-sleeping. I told her that we felt that we were doing what worked best for our family and that she was causing me a good deal of needless stress by not respecting my decisions. She also told me that I needed to be feeding my son more because he was still in the 25th percentile for weight. I explained that he was already eating as much as he wanted to, that I didn't want to force feed him and she responded that she simply didn't "like" his weight, offering no explanation as to why his weight was a problem when he was growing steadily. On the third visit, when she went into the same things, I told her that I felt incredibly disrespected and stressed and asked her point blank if she thought my son was healthy because I felt like she was implying that I was not looking after him properly, and she told me that yes, of course he was healthy. When I asked her what the problem was then, she just shrugged and suggested that I start feeding my son cereal and olive oil "for the extra calories," at 5 months old. She then told me that the next time I should book a visit was when my son was 9 months old. I will not be going back.

Dr. Ajamian is very pleasant and caring, and was very good with our children. Unfortunately it takes a long time to get an appointment. Multiple times when my child was sick I called to come in and they said they had no availability for over a week. Not helpful with a sick child, I had to go to a walk in. Her hours changed to be very short and only during nap time. I went anyway at the earliest time and after an hour of waiting I was finally informed she was not even there and they did not know when she would be arriving. Her receptionist stated that she had been an hour late all week with no explanation. I am switching pediatricians because I need someone that can actually see us and not routinely run an hour late.

I have been bringing my child to Dr. Ajamian for the past two years, and I feel so fortunate to have found her. She is an excellent Pediatrician. Not only is she highly knowledgeable, she also has a wonderful way with my child. The wait in the waiting room has been longer than I'd like on occasion, but when we get in to see Dr. Ajamian, she doesn't rush through the appointment. She is thorough and takes time to answer all my questions. So, I can only assume the reason the wait can be long is because she is giving the same care and attention to other parents/children who depend on her. I have called the office twice now, asking to get in that day for immediate medical attention, and they have always been able to squeeze us in. The Allan Clinic is a bit of a drive for me, but I make it because of Dr. Ajamian... because I trust her with my child's health and value the feedback/advice she gives me.
