Arlene Joan Sargeant

Dr. Everett Sargeant was an Obstetrician, Gynecologist, Oncologist and Surgeon who served at St Josephs Hospital, Hamilton. He was a professor and taught undergraduates at McMaster University. He was a specialist in 3rd world medicine, working in Kenya, Africa and also set up teaching stations testing the students in their home villages to help them solve their village health problems. In 1985 he worked as Chief surgeon at Hospital Albert Schweitzer, Haiti and continued to work through the revolution of Duvalier healing bullet wounds, machete wounds, eye innucleation, mending joints and childrens malnutrition. In 1992 he convinced the Melons to open an urgent care maturnity ward at the hospital. He shared his surgical talents with other Haitian doctors and was very proud of the work he accomplished there. Dr. Everett Sargeant was a Doctor, Humanitarian, Innovator and Friend, devoted to Hospital Albert Schweitzer and Reverence for Life. He was an inspiration to those who formed the Hamilton, Canadian Friends of Hospital Albert Schweitzer, Haiti now continuing to support the Maternal and Child Care programs at the hospital. www.cfhas.ca
