I had cataracts removed and intraocular implants inserted in 2013. One eye was done at the Riverside Hospital, the second eye at the Riverside Hospital. Approximately three months after the surgeries, I developed blepharitis. No cure except for 4 drops per day of Systane eye drops. My eyes were bothering me so bad, ie., redness, inflammation of eyelids, droopy eyes, a lot of matter developing in corner of eyes and eyelids. I went to see a different optometrist who discovered I had dirt (debris) in one-third of my lenses. The optometrist referred me back to Dr. Ross. Dr. Ross wrote a letter to the optometrist stating she will not be seeing me again without any explanation or reason. I strongly believe this is negligence in the fact that the surgical instruments were improperly sterilized, and I strongly believe that this is not the first time this happens. I have always been courteous and respectful with Dr. Ross, was on time for every appointment, paid her well and on time. Now I am very upset and angry as I need laser surgery to remove the debris which might have caused the blepharitis. I demand to know why she will not see me again since she performed the initial surgeries. All this period of time that has passed has caused me constant tiredness, inability to do anything, inconveniences, has affected my personal life, my daily living activities, and caused depression. I have found out that the Bausch & Laumb's drops for sensitive eyes do better than Systane. I want Dr. Ross to be put on notice as well as the Riverside Hospital and General Campus of my intent to pursue litigation for personal injury. The fact that she does not explain in her letter what the reason is for not wanting to see me leads to suspicion. MONIQUE LACROIX 287 MAIN STREET GATINEAU, QUÉBEC J8P 5K1 moniklacroix@gmail.com

Dr. Ella Ross is the lowest rated ophthalmologist for a reason. I wish I’ve checked the reviews before. I was her patient for a long time but always tried to ignore strange things happening in her office. The main takeaway - you might finish your appointment with high blood pressure, anxiety or a heart attack. She always tries to split your appointment in few, while the equipment allows to conduct all tests at the same time. Each appointment is paid by OHIP but some of them are charged extra by Dr. Ross. The rules and the tone of the office makes you feel like an unwanted beggar rather than welcomed client. Once I had a mistake to ask Dr.Ross to explain me what cataract is to a rude answer - “I just told you this! You didn’t hear?”. During the pandemic I had to visit hospitals, medical clinics, test laboratories, government offices and airports. Nowhere else, only at Ross’s office, I saw rules for bathroom when to use it you had to register in a separate book with all your personal information and the time of signing in (for the bathroom), waiting for the bathroom door to be unlocked by staff. While using it reading threatening posts - “we are going to check what condition you left the bathroom”, and then officially checking out of the bathroom. Except the registration book the same process is left after the pandemic. If you need to change or cancel your appointment you pay $50. If something happened and you could not make it you pay $100. Needless to say that most of the clients are retired and with no extra income. Last lime I came for the visit long after the pandemic, I forgot a mask. I was sure that like everywhere else (dental clinic, hospital, etc) I will be generously given one. But I was charged $1. Next I was charged $1 for feet covers. Next forgetting client did not have cash. What do you do? Cancel appointment and pay $100? I found these rules simply outrageous. It was not free and it was not a pay to cover the cost of a mask and a feet cover. This was a profitable transaction with no ethics consideration. As I have shared my opinion I was called to Dr.Ross office where I was schooled on my behaviour. I was told that the receptionist was crying because of me. As I have not commented on anybody personally and only expressed my fascination with the strange rule, I have offered Dr.Ross to ask few people who witnessed the conversation about my “wrong doing”. Dr. Ross refused. I said - sorry but I don’t understand. Dr. Ross thanked me for my apology, while I did not apologise as i did not offend anybody in any way. I felt interrogated and attacked. My attempt to find out what, other than my disagreement with unreasonable rules, could cause an issue did not bring any results and Dr. Ross sent me back in the waiting room, where I was on “hold” for an hour while new coming clients were continued to be accepted. In few years I have noticed that reception staff is changing pretty often. I guess, it is very stressful to confront every client on behalf of Dr. Ross. Although, Dr. Ross herself blamed for the charges a mysterious corporation. This means, it is not Dr. Ross, who created all these charges, it is “a corporation “ that, for some reason, makes such profits only from this specific doctor.... At the end of my appointment, I have found that Dr. Ross created a dossier on me. I could not believe my eyes. In the place for information about my eyes there was a lengthy description of me screaming and slamming doors (?!). Just imagine what kind of scene that should be. And nobody complained or called police? This slander was placed there silently while refusing my offer to confirm it with witnesses. Would you want to trust this person with your health?
