I wrote the commentary below below two days ago. After I talked to Dr. Zamfir, she introduced herself to my mother, was courteous and helpful to her in the remaining 2 days she stayed in emergency, and ensured that she could leave to go home as soon as possible. Thank you Dr. Zamfir for reacting so positively when criticized, and helping my mother. I have revised my ratings. Previous comment: Dr. Zamfir seems not to introduce herself to her emergency ward patients. My mother, in emergency for several days because no bed was available, had no idea that she had even been seen by a doctor. Dr. Z did not leave information or let family know what was happening until contact was urgently requested from the nursing station on the third day, still in emergency. Her response (on the phone) to questions about whether my mother would be better off at home was "you can check her out against medical advice, I'm fine with that", repeated several times. She doesn't appear to realize that medicine is more than drugging and catheterizing patients without communicating with them as human beings. It was evident that she was familiar with my mother's condition, but also evident that she was exasperated with my expectation that she communicate it. She took exception to my comment that I would prefer my mother be treated, not ignored. Well, I take exception to her "treatment" of my mother. Thank heavens for some other staff in emergency who actually took the time to introduce themselves and treat my mother as a person. Humanity does not need to be time consuming; lack thereof takes time to fix.
