How does someone go into hospital with a broken shoulder and be told two weeks later she has "permanently" lost bladder function? This was my experience with Dr, Larocque. He did not ask any questions or do any medical tests when he pronounced to me rudely and curtly that my non-functioning bladder was "permanent" and that I would require a catheter for the rest of my life. He did not consult or refer me to a urologist or a neurologist even though I have M.S. He did not do any tests and refused the recommendation for a kidney ultrasound from a urologist I personally consulted. He did not even do a basic urine culture even though it should have been clear from my urine that I had a urinary tract infection. Dr, Larocque's interaction with me should have been videotaped and shown to medical students as an example of how not to communicate with patients. Not only was he rude, unprofessional and uncaring in how he communicated with me, he was 100% wrong in his conclusion. Another physician diagnosed a urinary tract infection and treated it. My bladder function quickly returned. What would have happened if I had not seen another physician? Perhaps the loss of bladder function would have been permanent because Dr. Larocque did not diagnose a urinary tract infection.
