This psychiatrist is definitely in the wrong field. I have met many mental health professionals who have been understanding, considerate, caring and truly concerned about their patient's well-being. However, Dr. Young likes to be heard more than giving her patient's a chance to talk. She is a horrible listener and prefers to just prescribe meds and monitor them. Do yourself a favor and see someone else at the perinatal mental health clinic. She will tell you to look up different doctors and try to get help yourself self-refer yourself to other professionals and doesn't even know how referrals etc work in places where she suggests you seek help. Complete waste of my time and it's so sad to be told come to me when you hit rock bottom and need meds that's when I'll come handy!

See the comment from the previous person. My experience was similar to hers. I work in the same field as the 'esteemed' Bev Young and have encountered many practitioners in my lifetime but she is, by far, one of the worst. She appeared detached and bored during all of our sessions and did not dispense any relevant information. A complete waste of time. Surprised she moved up the ranks to become the clinical director of her program. She is what I call a professional careerist, nothing more. Laughable to know she is still in practice.

Dr sermer the OBGYN and dr young ruined my life forever!!!. Dr young was my psychiatrist for high risk pregnancy and Dr sermer was my obgyn At mt Sinai because of my years struggling with bipolar 1 and many other medical issues I was high risk. They bluntly took me off all meds in 3rd week first time seeing her including synthroid for my overactive thyroid and I had gestational diabetes which they did not treat. and they didn’t treat it So I gained 170 pounds when I was always 123 my whole life. I mentally was suicidal the full 9 months and still 5 years later treatment resistent and still suffering to get better. I’ve been hospitalized 11 times in 4 years since my beautiful son was born and been to emergency 17 times for feeling suicidal and attempting 3 times. I never recovered and she also never gave me a psychiatrist to go to when She ended her care one year later. They will never know what I have been through but I’m so broken and traumatized. I also had a c section and it’s across my whole stomach. Terrible doctors both and I’m forever so sad I was given them to help me. They shouldn’t be practicing that unknowledgeable and never checked up on me again.

She came across as cold and uninterested of my concerns even though I had suffered a terrible loss at the hands of the institution that she works for. I cannot forget the "sage" advice she gave me to just "get over it". Do you remember, Dr. Young? Probably not, since you always gave the impression that I was worth so little of your time.

I completely disagree with the other comments on here. Dr Bev Young saved my life. She went above and beyond to help me with my struggles during pregnancy and after. She even continued to follow me for 10 FULL years when I know she didn’t have to. I am forever grateful to this Dr. She’s not cold at all and really cares.
