Dr. Al-Awamer rescued my Partner Robert Bernard Kell from the emergency department of the Toronto General Hospital We had been there several times and always sent home, Dr Al-Awamer realized the severity of Bob's illness and took me aside to gently tell me that Bob was very ill, and might not live much longer, Bob had struggled for months realizing there was something seriously wrong with him, although his GP downplayed the severity....Dr Al-Awamer admitted Bob to Toronto General, and called me at home a few hours later to tell me that he had found a space for Bob in the Princess Margaret Cancer Palliative care centre, and that Bob was being taken there as he spoke. I had never heard of this place, the moment I walked into Bob's room I realized that this was a wonderful caring place for someone with bone cancer to die, Dr Al-Aware took the time to explain the us the possible scenario of Bob's dying in the most caring and loving manner+ clearly, realizing I and the family were under great duress, what a godsent the palliative care centre is, it made a horrific year of running around visiting doctors, keeping appointments etc, not being told the truth about his condition, a place filled with caring persons Bob spent 9 days, we were able to spend the nights with him, Bob died very peacefully in my presence, I was glad that suffering had come to an end So grateful to the kind caring of Dr Al-Awamer who became a light in an otherwise dark period of our lives, Thank you Dr Al-Awamer.
