Dr. Quastel's office in St. Mike's is very easy to find and on the TTC line which I found to be an advantage. I regret to say that Dr. Quastel was of very little help to me, likely detrimental and have no question that I would have improved far sooner if I had not seen him. His belief that rigorously saying nothing and providing no feedback at all while the patient speaks was very uncomfortable for me. I understand that he was likely not wanting to meddle in my affairs but the approach seemed over exaggerated. Each session was like a French Avant Garde film. If I wasn't the one speaking the room was in a dead silence. With the exception of salutations, when he did speak it was with frustration, occasionally with a raised voice. When inquiries were made regarding medical records, consults, department inquiries or paperwork there were Kafkaesque delays and promises that never came to be, even after months of repeated requests for simple requests, to a point where it was comical. Dr. Quastel's knowledge of medications is very poor by his own admissions. Medication decisions were quite literally left up to me. I found that unsettling. I also found that the entire department was enormously bureaucratic with hints of office politics issues which could be overheard amongst the admin staff. Kind of like it was run by the Department of Transportation. He was always precisely on time and only once or twice did he miss an appointment. I can only speak for my own experience because by some other reviews he was found to be quite satisfactory.

Does not know the drugs he prescribes. When things go wrong he doesn't care. I lost 30% of my body mass because of him. Never mind all the other issues. After 12 years of pain, suffering and outright harm I finally fired him.
